Factory tour for knowledge workers

If you are a nonprofit that primarily does "knowledge work," what is your factory tour like? How do you show stakeholders your work? How do you demonstrate impact?

I've been on many factory floor tours. Probably because I live in the Air Capitol of the world.

They usually go like this: You don a hard hat and safety goggles right before someone leads you through a large room filled with talented people operating expensive machinery. The room is pristine, the operators are focused, and the person leading the tour is very proud of the process they've built. (And they should be.)

If you are a nonprofit that primarily does "knowledge work," what is your factory tour like? How do you show stakeholders how you create impact?

You have talented people. You have expensive machinery. (Software) Have you ever considered giving a "factory tour" of your process? You could host a behind-the-scenes Zoom call to demonstrate your methods. It could be a powerful way to demonstrate that your organization is streamlined and effective. If your process isn't very clean and your people are disorganized, this could also serve as a good forcing mechanism to tidy up. 😁

If you are a nonprofit that wants to try this out with someone, I'd happily put on a hard hat and safety goggles for a tour.
