Hi, I'm Ted.

Why I made this cohort

My friends at nonprofits are frustrated by their software. They’re already wearing too many hats – donor relationships, event management, fundraising, marketing, volunteering… it’s a LOT. And after spending hours configuring their tools, the software still doesn’t work for them!

That's frustrating, and I get it

I’ve spent the last 10 years helping nonprofits use software to lead more productive organizations and do more good with less effort. That’s why I made this cohort. After learning a few foundational principles that apply to all tech, nonprofits can get more from their software and lead more effective organizations.

What you'll learn

By the end of this cohort you'll feel confident navigating the software landscape and quickly find tools that make you better at your job. We'll explore:

Building blocks at the heart of all software
Frameworks for becoming the boss of your software
How to ask better questions of your data
Pitfalls to avoid when buying software
How to introduce new software to your team (without them hating you)

    Other benefits

Work alongside other nonprofit leaders who are in the same boat
Get hands-on teaching and coaching from a software expert
Discover new approaches to solving problems that save you time

What my new friends are saying

Lots of love for the last cohort. Join us for Spring 2025!

Ted will change the way you think about technology and the data you collect. He'll find the holes in your processes that might seem overwhelming and break them into bite-size tasks that are way easier to digest. He'll make you a better storyteller and employee in 7.5 hours! His knowledge and expertise are worth the time and money (which you'll learn to value more after his cohort).

I want to add that I left this cohort feeling moved to ACTION instead of just accepting that this is the way things are when it comes to our tech stack. Thank you!

Great co-hort Ted! I really enjoyed the topics you covered and left feeling empowered and ready to tackle our tech stack. 🎉

    – Ruby

The course was extremely helpful for us at the Kansas Aviation Museum. We fit the "example" organization nearly to a tee, and it really made me realize how many things we are juggling. It also showed our organization the difference an experienced sherpa like Ted can make for the future.

Not only are you clearly intelligent and thoughtful, but you're a great communicator! I enjoy listening to whatever you're talking about!

    – Tom McAndrew

Thank you Ted Kriwiel for creating this opportunity!

    – Jamie Moeder, Chief People Officer, Kansas Leadership Center

This was so informative, and you kept it entertaining, funny, and real. It was a great time. Thank you for the lessons and for the experience!

Ted, you’re the smartest guy I know!! We left feeling grateful and prepared to tackle it all.

    – Aileen Rueda-DaCosta

I think the cohort was executed very well. You made everyone feel very seen and appreciated for being there and being apart of the cohort, and that was clearly felt all around. The only note I'd give a bit more time to collaborate between the nonprofits I think that would go a long way. Maybe it's some of the activities, or some short ice breaker to begin. I know it's a tight schedule, but I think those relationships being built briefly would go a long way and can be added appeal to the nonprofits that are participating.

You have a very special gift of teaching and teaching well. The questions you ask are important and make people feel seen in their struggles! Thank you for this incredibly valuable content. We learned that we are doing some things really well – in the reports we track and the data we're collecting – but not so well in the processes and communication. Your expertise in both data and technology gave us great insight on how to improve and scale. And the fact that you are adding a layer of accountability will help us (or me, anyway,) actually do the work!

    Cohort overview

    Session 1
    Software Problems All Nonprofits Face
I’ll provide a brief history of software and how the landscape has changed over the last few decades – and why that affects our challenges today. We’ll also discuss why nonprofits are so frustrated and five ways we can respond. Last, we’ll review the results of the software inventory we completed before this session.

    Session 2
Use Data to Show Your Impact to Funders
Nonprofit funders want more than a great story. They want the data to back it up, and software is where we’ll find a lot of that data. This session will examine challenges we face around measuring our impact, questions to ask before collecting information, and some simple ways to show your work through visualization reporting.

    Session 3
Make All the Different Tools Work Together
We talked about how nonprofits are drowning in software. Now, we’re going to talk about how to make all those tools talk to each other. In this session, I’ll demonstrate how to build a framework called a “data model” that we can use to connect our software to automate tedious tasks and integrate fragmented tools.

    SESSION 4
Create Your Process, and Then Add Software
Now that we know what data we need and how to work with our tech stack, let’s dive into mapping out software processes. In this session, we’ll walk through the journey customers and donors take as they navigate your organization. Next, we’ll overlay the software we use to facilitate that journey. Finally, we’ll identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.

    SESSION 5
Build a Roadmap for Change That Your Team Won’t Hate
We’ve identified pain points, created processes, and made some rules… Ready to implement some tech changes? This session will explore how to improve our software and tech stacks by making trade-offs, avoiding traps, and managing change. We’ll establish a roadmap of the change we want to see in our software and learn how to manage expectations along the way.

    Keep the Momentum Going
We’re not done yet! After these sessions, this cohort will hold group coaching sessions once a month for six months to keep the momentum going and hold each other accountable. Cohort members will have the chance to share their work, get feedback from an expert (me!) and grow with their peers.
    Dates/Times TBD

    Priced for your whole team

This cohort is most effective when more than one person from each nonprofit attends. Our pricing is per organization to encourage more people to participate.

Three ways this course could pay for itself:

Eliminate one unnecessary tool from your tech stack
(and save $1,000s)
Automate one task that you spend two hours/week on (and save hundreds of hours/year)
Persuade you not to spend $40,000 on a Wordpress developer for your website (and save roughly $40,000)

      $500

      Per organization

If you really want to participate, but this price creates a barrier, email me (ted@tedkriwiel.com) with the name of your organization and one reason you need this course. I'll connect you with a foundation that has offered to cover the cost.

      FAQs

Where will the sessions be held?

Sessions will take place on Zoom!

How many people from my organization can I bring?

This work will be more powerful (and more fun!) if you bring your team. We’d suggest no more than three people, though.

What if I can't attend all the sessions?

I'll miss you! (But I know you are busy.) We'll record each call and I'll send an email summary following each session. Even if you can't attend all of them, the emails will help you follow along and stay on track. They also have funny gifs.

I don’t know very much about software. Will this be over my head?

No! I made this specifically for you. The content is approachable, and you will receive plenty of personalized help.

How many people will be in each cohort?

We have room for 12 organizations (or about 20 people total).

How much work is required between each session?

We’ll limit the work required between sessions to no more than an hour. Applying the concepts and frameworks you gain through this course will unfold over months and years as your organization adapts and grows.
Do you have a refund policy?
I’m confident this will improve how you use software in your organization. If you go through the cohort and it doesn’t meet your expectations, I’ll refund your money, no questions asked.
